A Grieving Woman Finds Solace When Someone Remembers Her Name
When loss feels unbearable, a simple act of remembrance and sitting nearby brings unexpected comfort.
Prompt
"Ellen" It's the right thing. It just isn't the thing I wanted. That's the whole sentence, isn't it. The one nobody warns you about, where you've made the correct decision and it's still the worst day of your life. She was carrying all of it by herself. Then someone remembered her name and sat down. There's no fixing this. Nobody sitting on that bench could give her back a single thing she was losing. But you can sit down. You can say of course when someone asks if you'd visit. You can stay in the hug a little longer than normal. Sometimes that's the only thing available. It's not nothing. It's very far from nothing.
